An anti-pollution cosmetic protects the skin from the harmful effects of environmental pollutants, mainly from air and water. Heavy metals present in suspended dust or smog, as well as harmful UV/IR/HEV radiation, can promote the excessive generation of free radicals within cells, leading to oxidative stress that damages cells. An anti-pollution cosmetic acts as a barrier preventing the skin’s exposure to radiation and pollutants, thereby protecting it from irritation, premature ageing, and skin diseases, including cancer.
External skin protection is crucial for skin health because every day the skin is exposed to harmful external factors, such as UV radiation, pollution, and free radicals. Antioxidant supplementation can support us internally, but it is external protection – especially through sunscreens and products that shield against pollution – that works directly on the skin to prevent damage and premature ageing. Therefore, both forms of protection – internal and external – are equally important.
The first step should always be thorough cleansing to remove any residues of overnight products, sebum, impurities, and sweat, preparing the skin for the next stages of care. The next step is toning, which aims to restore the skin’s proper pH balance after cleansing. After that, you can apply a serum or hydrating product to address specific skin needs (e.g., hydration, regeneration, brightening). Finally, apply a moisturising cream to provide hydration, smooth the skin’s surface, and prepare it for subsequent steps. After applying a moisturising cream, sunscreen with SPF (preferably 50+) should be applied. This very important step aims to protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB radiation. Sunscreen should be used daily, even on cloudy days, as UV radiation affects the skin year-round. Once the skin is properly prepared, makeup can be easily applied and will stay in place throughout the day. It is advisable to wait 1–2 minutes between applying each layer of product to allow the ingredients to absorb. For products with SPF, it is important to apply them sufficiently in advance (at least 15 minutes before sun exposure) to ensure full protective effect.
Yes, the cream works well as a makeup base.
